Paddington Terrace Courtyard Garden
The brief
With level access and a clear outlook to the outdoor space, this client wanted their new Paddington courtyard garden to feel like an extension of their indoor living space. A resort style garden with enhanced privacy was important, so we created solid fencing and designed a stone feature wall.
The long central sofa is flanked by two contemporary outdoor chairs providing plenty of outdoor seating options. Large feature pot clusters include soft tropical planting with a resort style feel. The planting at either end softens the corners while leaving room to move around the seating.
New herringbone marble tiles bring a level of detail to match the classic terrace architecture. Combining well with the feature stone wall for another layer of texture.
Furniture
The open backs and slimline frames of the furniture are not only space effective, but they let the paving and pots remain visible.
The oversized stone top coffee table introduces flexible casual outdoor dining without the space of a dining setting.
A thick woven rug defines the sitting area while other smaller elements help decorate the space to make it feel like a crafted living space.
The metal wall art becomes a bold statement piece that is balanced with dark frames of the furniture pieces.
Plants
Tall bird of paradise (Strelitzia nicolai) anchor both ends of the courtyard in generous cream stone pots.
Feather-leaved palms add a softer feel and keep the planting minimal and restrained.
The pots are gather in clusters of different heights rather than running in a continuous line. Giving each plant room to be seen, and allowing the herringbone floor to be seen and appreciated.
